Increased the Tunisia quota for the red tuna
The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Samir Taieb, has announced the granting to Tunisia of an additional share of bluefin tuna fishing by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) ). The total increase in the quota is equal to 121 tons divided into 56 tons for 2019 and 65 for 2020.
The Department of Fisheries will also provide for the issuance of additional fishing licenses for this species, in the next three years, paying attention to favoring a fair distribution of such permits between the regions.
The Minister said that an agreement was reached with the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP) for the granting of 18 new bluefin tuna fishing licenses and that this number will increase to 20, as a result of the increase in Tunisia’s quota. This provision foresees the issuance of 8 permits in 2018, 6 in 2019 and another 6 in 2020 that will be assigned by drawing lots. The governorate of Medenine will receive 5 new licenses between 2018 and 2020.
