Prokopi bridge declared cultural monument
The Ministry of Culture, with the order n. 477 (14.07.2017), declared the Prokopi Bridge, in Himara, as a cultural monument for its architectural value and his role in the development of the historical center of Himara. Built in 1878 by Vjero Kosta, it stands near the church of St. Prokopi, from which it takes its name. Historically, it connected the religious structure with the historical center of Himara city.
The Prokopi Bridge is a solid construction with a total height of 7 meters, a 4 meter high arch and a 3.80 meter wide paving. Its supports lie on the cliffs of the stream below.
The proposal to recognize it as a national monument was presented by DRKK Vlora (Regional Directorate of National Culture, Vlora) who also requested the granting of cultural monument status for places of worship, buildings of rare engineering and architectural value, as well as the archaeological ruins of the area.
