Radiofrequency against illegal fishing

As part of the campaign against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, the Department of Maritime Fisheries has started the operation of identifying fishing boats, using radio frequency (RFID).

The regulation provides for the installation of devices that will allow to obtain accurate and immediate information on the fishing boat. This is to fight against the falsification of names and registration number of the boats and to prevent the possibility of boat theft. The use of the RFID reader will also be useful for reporting catches and acquiring data and images from boats.

The first operations have already begun, successfully, in the first days of November, in the port of Al Hoceima. Over 100 vessels registered in the port were provided with the identification device.

The operation will cover the entire national fishing fleet consisting of more than 16.418 boats spread in the Moroccan coast, in over 156 ports and fishing sites. The implementation of this operation should last for 14 months.

WEBPORT is the digital port of the Mediterranean. It is designed and edited by CIHEAM Bari. It started in 2014 with the support of the Italian Agency for Cooperation to Development.

The pages of Albania and Montenegro were created and implemented as part of the CO.CO.TOUR project funded by the INTERREG IPA CBC Italy - Albania - Montenegro program.
