The port of Tricase destroyed but proud

On 25 November 2018 a violent tornado has hit the community of Tricase, in Italy and numerous neighboring communities, causing considerable damage, but fortunately no fatalities. The tornado category F2 on the Fujita scale, that is able to release winds over 200 km/h, originated on the Ionian coast and made a journey of over 20 km, of which more than a third in the territory of Tricase.

Just in the two Tricase marinas the tornado reached its maximum intensity, recording the greatest damage. Churches and damaged buildings, demolished walls, water and electric installations completely destroyed, seriously compromised the road system in the whole affected area, due to the numerous trees and collapsed walls.

In the Port of Tricase twelve boats have been sunk and many cars have been crushed by the collapse of trees and walls. Also destroyed numerous commercial activities throughout the area.

Even the sailing ship Portus Veneris, a century-old boat symbol of the Port of Tricase, has reported the breaking of the yards and sails.

“The territory of Tricase had never been affected by such catastrophic events”, declared the residents.

Commercial activities, associations, institutions, individual citizens of the port of Tricase, damaged and frightened are ready to start again and to rebuild what destroyed.
