Inauguration of two stations of the metropolitan in Algiers
The President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, inaugurated Monday, April 9, 2018, two extensions of the Algierian metro, which connect the Grande-Poste to the Place des Martyrs and Hai El Badr to Ain Naadja.
Place des Martyrs metro station is an important step in the realization of preventive archeology that has been able to combine the archaeological heritage with the development of the territory, which aims to make the capital a modern city.
With an area of 8.000 mq, the Place des Martyrs was, before the advent of colonialism, a political and commercial center: hence the archaeological discoveries gradually brought to light. These are archaeological remains spread over about 1.500 mq and four layers representing different periods in the history of the city of Algiers. The visitor can see today in the Place des Martyrs the emerging part of these excavations and in particular an Ottoman city over an area of 750 mq, while other leavings remain buried awaiting a suitable development.
