CENTROPHORUS TESSELLATUS in Himara bay
A very rare species of shark has been found by some fishermen of Himara in their nets. It is a specimen of Centrophorus Tessellatus, a small shark, belonging to the Centroforidae family, which can reach a maximum length of 89 cm and which is known by fishermen with the name of “anguilla” shark .
It usually lives in the Pacific Ocean, along the coasts of Japan and Hawaiian Islands, at depths between 260 and 730 meters. For the fishermen of Himara it is not the first time that shark specimens remain entangled in the nets during this period. In their view, the presence of this predator can be related with the ongoing climatic changes.
