Tricase and the mission”Gino the garbage octopus”

The Port Museum of Tricase continues to invest in culture and nature and to involve actors and protagonists of its life to build, together, a “BlueLand”, designing opportunities, assessing the needs and imagining progress and developments.

An important step towards this important goal was the operation “Gino, the garbage octopus” which took place on Sunday 23rd June, on the docks of the port, organized within the framework of the Blue Land Project, by CIHEAM Bari, MARE Outpost, Magna Grecia Mare Association, Port Museum of Tricase and Municipality of Tricase.

A day of awareness of respect for the environment and the sea that wanted to clean up the seabed of the port and the entire port area thanks to the great work of Dwd Diving Chiuri, the core divers of the Coordination of Volunteer Civil Protection Lecce, Clean Up Tricase and the always valuable support of the fishermen of Tricase.

The presence of a biologist on the quay gave children the opportunity to observe and learn about the marine organisms settled on the waste brought to the surface by divers and immediately release them into the sea.

The morning ended with the release of a specimen of Caretta Caretta, wounded and treated at the Marine Turtle Recovery Center of the Museum of Calimera Naturalia, supported by the Local Maritime Office of Tricase and Masseria Nonno Tore.
