The collection of figs has started in Matrouh

The fig collection season at Marsa Matrouh began at the end of July. The figs of Marsa Matrouh, a high quality product in demand in North Africa and Middle East, have been one of the objectives of the MARSADEV project, implemented in Egypt by CIHEAM Bari.

Abdulazeez Waer, President of the Matrouh Association for Desert Agricultural Development – MADAD, confirmed the start of the fig harvesting period and its commercialization both in local and national markets.

With the support of CIHEAM Bari, a new agricultural cooperative of fig producers will be able to strengthen and improve the marketing and to enhance the product on national and international markets.
