New motors for Matrouh Fishermen

Within the activities envisaged by the Nemo Egypt Project, implemented by CIHEAM Bari with the financial support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, 20 outboard marine engines were purchased for the members of the Matrouh Fishermen Cooperative.

The Yamaha engines, with powers ranging from 10 to 20 hp, will allow to enhance the fishing fleet, mainly composed of small boats, which carry out their activity within the lagoon.

The use of the new engines will allow the achievement of new fishing areas, outside the lagoon, with the consequent reduction of the collection of fish species inside the bay, where the excessive sampling has led over the years to an impoverishment of the ecosystem and the reduction of the quantity of the catch.
