The seahorse returns to Albania
For several years, in the Albanian sea, the seahorses were no longer seen. Recent data and research by scientists confirm the return of this species.
The data collected are supported by reports from fishermen confirming that the seahorse (Hippocampus Hippocampus) was a very common species in Albania but that had almost completely disappeared. Now, however, their presence is more and more frequently recorded.
The collected data are part of a research activity carried out by Albanian scientists and researchers on species in danger of extinction in the area.
The presence and the return of seahorses is an important indicator on the state of the marine ecosystem and the attention of fishermen towards species not interesting from an economic point of view indicates the growing awareness of environmental protection and towards a fishing more responsible and attentive to the resources of the sea.
