Porto Palermo for tourists

Porto Palermo, in the south of Albania, is an area that has a large number of tourists throughout the year and not only in the summer season.

To cope with the increasing number of tourists, a series of interventions and initiatives have been launched to ensure the best tourist reception.

To meet the requests for hospitality, the fishermen have joined the traditional fishing activities, some tourist reception initiatives in their homes.

Tourists are hosted in fishermen’s homes where they can also taste traditional dishes prepared by the fishermen themselves or their wives.

The diversification of traditional fishing activities provides fishermen with an increase in family income which translates into better management of resources and less pressure on fish stocks.

Moreover, in Porto Palermo, the construction of an information center has been launched, which will be dedicated to tourists, to provide useful tourist information but also to transmit news and knowledge about the history and many other aspects of the area.

The center aims not only to create new jobs for the community, but also to create a direct link between the tourist and the community, fishermen and local businesses.

WEBPORT is the digital port of the Mediterranean. It is designed and edited by CIHEAM Bari. It started in 2014 with the support of the Italian Agency for Cooperation to Development.

The pages of Albania and Montenegro were created and implemented as part of the CO.CO.TOUR project funded by the INTERREG IPA CBC Italy - Albania - Montenegro program.
