South of Albania celebrates the olive oil day
The month of October marks the beginning of the olive harvesting period in Albania, which lasts until December. The marketing of olives and oil represents an important economic source for many families, especially in the south of the country, where the major production is concentrated.
To promote the oil and olives produced in Albania and to support the economy of the families of entire villages, the olive oil day is celebrated in October.
This year the event was opened by the Minister of Tourism and the Environment and by the Mayor of Himara who underlined the importance of this economic activity and the need to continue this tradition.
The day saw the carrying out of a series of activities to promote olive oil, produced in the city of Himara and a series of entertainment activities with songs, dances and traditional cuisine.
