Fishermen census in Vlora region

Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery Department started a national census to fishermen and fishery vessels developing their activity at a national range. In Vlora region (including 3 main cities Vlora, Himara and Saranda) there are 130 active fishery vessels operating in the southern coast of Albania.

A large number of these vessels are registered in the Port of Vlora, 1/3 in the Port of Saranda and only a few boats in the port of Himara. Most are registered as family activities. 95% of fishermen are not organized in any form of association. In any case, 75% of fishermen are in favor of setting up companies and organizations for fisheries management.
